Housewarming Gifts

Paint and cardboard still own the new flat. Wrenfold's housewarming shelf starts at £4.95, with a New Home Gift Set, box of 8 Windermere wax melts and mango-wood incense bowl.

There is no price inside the box when it reaches their new address. Orders are dispatched from Yorkshire in 1–2 days, and mainland UK delivery is free over £30 or £3.95 otherwise.

Choosing one

A new flat smells of paint and cardboard for a fortnight, which is why scent does more work here than anything else. A reed diffuser at £21.95 runs for months with no flame and nothing to remember, which suits a household still finding the plug sockets.

If you would rather not guess at their taste in scent, a wax melt bar at £3.95 is a low-stakes way in, and the New Home Gift Set at £42.95 is the one to send when it is a first house rather than a third flat.

Worth avoiding: anything that needs shelf space they have not unpacked yet. That is why this shelf is mostly things that get used up. A new flat wants clean and citrus rather than anything heavy; the reasoning is here.

Housewarming gift ideas divide neatly in two: something for the room, or something for the first night in it. The chimes and the dreamcatchers are the first sort, the candles and the bath things the second.

A new flat still smelling of paint takes scent before anything else, which is what candles and diffusers are for. For something that arrives finished rather than assembled, the boxed sets start at £19.95.

A burner and a bar of melts is the cheapest way to make a flat smell lived in: that is wax melts and oil burners. For one object rather than five, see Buddha and home decor, and for a doorway rather than a shelf, dreamcatchers and wind chimes.

Questions we get asked

What is considered a good housewarming gift?

A new room usually needs small finishing touches before grand gestures. The New Home Gift Set, a 140ml Windermere diffuser or a box of 8 wax melts starts the shelf at £4.95.

What is a good present for a housewarming?

The first unpacked room gives the useful clue. A tall glass jar candle, mango-wood incense bowl or Diffuser Duo arrives in a plain, unmarked parcel, without prices.

What are some good housewarming gifts?

Bare shelves make this decision rather easier. Wrenfold's £4.95–£44.95 range covers wax melts, candles, a 150ml diffuser refill and the New Home Gift Set. The home fragrance gifts page keeps the focus on scent.

What's a nice, inexpensive housewarming gift?

A small object can finish one corner without crowding the new place. The range begins at £4.95 and includes the Golden Glow 50g wax melt bar and Windermere box of 8 melts.
